Social Assistance
While direct
financial assistance remains the main program of Heroes for
Children, other programs such as Laptops for Love and other social
assistance programs round out the mission of the organization.
Other programs include:
Holiday Heroes

"We didn't have a
Christmas last year. Thank you for providing one for us this year!"
Holiday Heroes
provides full holiday joy to cancer families. Fourteen
families across the state were adopted for the Holiday Heroes
program in 2007. Families were chosen by the social workers at
each of the major hospitals served by Heroes for Children.
Members of HFC Friends, the Women's Auxiliary of Heroes for
Children, and volunteers in Houston helped shop, wrap, and donate
the gifts! From Christmas trees and decorations to Nintendo
Wii and clothes, the families received gifts! Each family greeted
the volunteers with tears and gratitude.

Heroes Milestones
Heroes Milestones was
created by Special Events Coordinator, Christi Disch, in memory of
her friend Kira. Kira was diagnosed with cancer just before
her high school graduation. Unable to attend her own graduation,
Christi and friends brought a graduation party to her! In her
memory, Christi created Heroes Milestones, to help cancer patients
celebrate the milestones in their lives. Heroes Milestones can
include a birthday party for the child unable to leave the hospital,
a Quincenera or a prom, to a Celebration of Life party for a dying
child. This newly created program will continue Kira's legacy
by helping other children find happiness in celebrating their
milestone events.

Nathaniel and his family were the first Heroes Milestones
receipients. As a final celebration of Nathaniel's life,
Heroes Milestones provided him with a shopping spree to purchase
momentos for his family engraved with his name on it.
Carrabbas Italian Grill provided the family and friends with an
evening to remember, with a fabulous catered meal and even a
fireworks show provided by Phoenix Design Group!
