September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

a time to honor the brave children who are fighting, remember those we’ve lost, and stand in solidarity with families navigating the unimaginable. At Heroes for Children, we invite you to Go Gold and join our mission to provide direct financial and emotional support to families across Texas affected by pediatric cancer.

Restaurants Go Gold

  • Host a Give Back Nigjt: Choose a day in September to donate a percentage of sales to Heroes for Children. We’ll help promote it and drive traffic to your location!

  • Create a Go-Gold Themed Menu Item:  Feature a limited-time item with proceeds benefiting local families in need—think “Gold Ribbon Burger” or “Golden Hour Cocktail.”

  • Round Up Campaign at Checkout: Invite your customers to round up their bill to support families affected by pediatric cancer. Small change = big difference!

  • Gift a Meal or Treat: Donate meals, desserts, or discount codes for the 20 families receiving extra support through our Go Gold campaign.

  • Decor & Go Gold: Show your support with gold balloons, ribbons, or signs throughout your restaurant—and encourage staff to wear gold!

Small Businesses Go Gold

Corporations Go Gold

Underwrite a Go Gold Program 

  • $5,000 – Single Hospital Underwriter: Covers financial assistance for one Texas partner hospital for the entire month of September.

  • $15,000 – Houston Market Underwriter: Funds financial assistance across all Houston-area partner hospitals for the entire month of September.

  • $15,000 – Dallas Market Underwriter: Supports families at all Dallas-area partner hospitals for the entire month of September.

  • $15,000 – Austin/San Antonio Market Underwriter: Provides emergency support for families served at Austin and San Antonio for the entire month of September.

Receive Priority Branding

  • Recognition as a Go Gold Partner

  • Logo placement on the Heroes for Children website for one year

  • Featured in the 2025 End-of-Year Impact Report

Schools Go Gold

  • Go Gold Dress Day: Host a spirit day where students and staff wear gold or yellow to raise awareness. Encourage a small donation to participate.

  • Penny Wars or Coin Drive: Turn giving into a fun competition between classrooms or grade levels. Every coin collected supports families facing pediatric cancer.

  • Host a Gold-Themed Bake Sale or Snack Stand: Get students involved in baking or selling golden-themed treats (cookies, popcorn, lemonade) to raise funds for Heroes for Children.

  • Create Kindness Cards or Art Projects: Have students create encouraging cards, artwork, or posters to be delivered to children in treatment or displayed at local partner hospitals.

  • “Change for Children” Campaign: Encourage families to collect loose change at home and bring it in throughout the month of September.

  • Read for a Cause: Start a read-a-thon where students collect pledges for the number of books or minutes they read, with funds going toward family support programs.

  • School-Wide Assembly or Awareness Moment: Host a short presentation (virtual or in-person) about childhood cancer awareness and how your school is helping—invite a local Hero family to share their story if appropriate.

  • Sell Gold Ribbons or Bracelets: Provide students with a small awareness item in exchange for a donation—great for student councils or honor societies to lead.

  • Decorate Your Campus Gold: Fill hallways with gold balloons, streamers, student-made posters, or awareness ribbons to show solidarity with families in treatment.
